VanDyne SuperTurbo™ Moves Headquarters to Old Town Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS – VanDyne SuperTurbo Inc.™, a company spun out of Woodward Co. (NYSE: WWD) in 2009, has relocated its corporate headquarters to the Opera Galleria on College Avenue in Fort Collins.
The company, which specializes in the design, development and production of SuperTurbochargers for the global automotive market and heavy-duty engine manufacturers, has leased 5,000 square feet at 123 N. College Ave. for 16 employees. The lease was facilitated by Rick Callan for Realtec.
“Since the demand for the company’s solutions continues to grow globally, we felt it was necessary to make the move at this time to increase our capabilities,” said Ed VanDyne, CEO of VanDyne SuperTurbo Inc.™
The company got its start in the incubator program of the Rocky Mountain Innovation Initiative, or RMI2, where the company had its offices. RMI2 is now known as the Rocky Mountain Innosphere, with its own new building on East Vine Drive. VanDyne General Manager Mark Herbst told the Business Report Daily that the company still has a close relationship with RMI.
“We are still members, and we have a very close affiliation,” he added.
“VanDyne SuperTurbo™ is an excellent example of what the Innosphere program is all about,” said Mark Forsyth, director of RMI. “In a few short years, the company has grown from a single entrepreneur with a vision to an award-winning venture-funded company with more than 20 employees and their own leased headquarters. The investment made by RMI and the community in this venture will be repaid many times over in the jobs and economic opportunity they will create in the coming years.”
As part of the move, VanDyne has also added a new 3,000 square-foot multi-bay engine research facility for testing its SuperTurbochargers, which can improve gasoline engine efficiency by more than a third with no additional net cost to an automobile manufacturer.
The company was named the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association’s Emerging Company of the Year in 2010, and received the Outstanding Venture Award at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory 23rd Industry Growth Forum last October.
VanDyne SuperTurbo™ has also picked up several significant contracts over the past year, including a U.S. Army Phase 1 Small Business Innovation Research grant to model diesel waste heat recovery and a National Science Foundation SBIR Phase 1 award to model gasoline engine waste heat recovery. The company will also be working with Cummins Inc. to develop more fuel-efficient Class 8 trucks as a part of the Department of Energy’s stimulus-funded SuperTruck program.
